Get Down & Dirty Series Success

The series, newly introduced for 21012, set out to give the younger members in particular exposure to race experience in a range of disciplines, has been a definite hit.

The 6 events started in October and ran through the winter to the end of March, giving members focus throughout the traditional off-season.

In total 37 members completed in the series. The Phoenix Round of the CXNE 2012/13 Series was added to the list of qualifying events. Riders missing a round had 30 points added to their total. As the series crossed into a new year, all riders remained in the same age group for the purposes of the series overall.

Jake Dobson - Living the high life?

In a season which has seen mixed success, Jake Dobson is still blazing a trail nationally.

As the clubs leading rider on the track and road, sometimes the pressures and results don't live up to expectation, but Jake is always reassured by his Dad that there is always a positive to come out of every event. After a solid winter on the riding the Manchester Track League, the road and the National Youth calendar beckoned and, being Jake's main focus of the year, had realistic targets to aim at.

Newburn Throws Phoenix a Lifeline

Despite still lacking a dedicated closed road facility as Sunderland and Middlesbrough Councils have built over the years, an improvised section of the Newburn Business Park is seeing some novel use when the Phoenix usitlise it from their usual base at Scotswood Sports Centre.

From an initial trail in April, the park, a five minute ride or drive from Scotswood, allows coaching on a completely closed off stretch of unbuilt units. The surprise are the numbers that turn out with several riders demonstrating exactly why the club is always well up in the placings when regional events are on. One can only hope that this shows Newcastle City Council that such a facility would have massive health benefits to the region as it would surely encourage more people to take up the sport
